I like the idea of a mountain man with the Indians ... but have you thought about a old man of God, perhaps an old southwestern priest with a cross being confronted by them?
Hello Master David, how about an early 18th century Spanish lancer aka soldado de cuera (shield, caparisoned horse, lance, and escopeta) and a Plains Apache armored horse and rider - long lance, rawhide shield etc. These early lords of the Plains, rather gaunt Athapaskan horse raiders seem to me like an interesting subject for a sculpture?
