2nd Day of the Park City Art Festival

I must apologize for the short video. I just had no time. This show is one of the top 6 in the USA. So needless to say, there were a lot of people coming through the gallery, and asking questions. I'll try and set up my camera tomorrow and do a time lapse of all the people in the gallery. My luck, I do that and no one will come in.. lol

On My Way To Park City Utah

Sorry I've been off my blog for a few days. I've been getting ready to make an appearance at the Mountain Trails Gallery in Park City Utah over the weekend. I'm packed, except for the two clays I'm taking down for my show.
Thursday night, probably late, I'll add to this blog with video and pictures of my trip to Utah. It's only a little over 400 miles away. So I'll be there tomorrow afternoon. So please come back and check in.
See you Thursday..

KIT - Started Kit's Figure Today

I came to the conclusion that I need to work out the figure before I can figure the size of the saddle. So I worked out the proportions of Kit Carson's body. Then make the armature.
I put the armature on a separate piece of wood to make it easier to work on. Only trouble with doing that is that you not working on the figure on the horse and your unable to maximize coordinating his actions with the horses'. If it doesn't work out, it's easy enough to restart the figure.

Final photographs today. Not sure I'll be in my studio Monday. I'm heading to Utah for a show next week. So come back and check Monday night, 11 pm Pacific Time.

KIT - A Leg

Wasn't in the best condition today. I was up off and on all night last night, due to 3 power outages that lasted anywhere from 1 to 2 hours each. Same thing happened the night before and once during the day. So I was a bit off of my game today.
I did get the right leg done though.

KIT - Body Adjustments

Spent the morning researching some more. Looking for reference books and going through Mountain Man photos taken by a friend at a 2005 Rendezvous in Wyoming. Found some great photographs of period saddles and tack.
Today, I changed the angle of the horses neck and head. Removed the saddle and saddle blanket that I added yesterday. Click on the video link below.

I won't be doing the blog tomorrow. I'm off to Bozeman to meet a friend from out of town. I'll be back Thursday.

Kit - New Title

This clay will, at this moment in time, be a sculpture, eventually of the famed mountain man and Army Scout, Kit Carson.

Untitled - Day 3

Got to the studio today, and started to go through some art books I have on bronzes. Trying to stimulate the creative side of my mind. Then I decided to put a saddle blanket on the horse. Still not sure where I'm going with this piece.

Final photos and some of my friends at the Rusty Cowboy, here in Ennis Montana. They sell artwork and old cowboy and ranch stuff. Such as hats, boots and clothing.

Untitled - Day Two - Visitors today

Just added clay to the foam base and then worked on the front legs of the horse a bit. Still haven't got a title for this piece or an idea of where I'll direct it.

Untitled - Day One

Ok, I'm late getting my blog online. I started working on it at 5 pm, and it's now 2 am and I'm waiting for the Youtube upload to finsh so I can put it, and me, to bed. It's because I'm working off my lap top, and the programs I'm using for the videos, are ones I've never used. I didn't catch onto what I was doing wrong till 9 pm. Still a couple of bugs, but I'll be ok.
Today, I revisited one of the wax horses and Indians I had set aside back at the begining of May to start "Somewhere A Cowboy's Walkin". You'll see what I mean in today's video.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walkin - Estimates today

I traveled to two foundries in Bozeman and Belgrade Montana today to get bids on the cost of mold and casting costs of the clay.
I apologize that I have no current photos or video today. I downloaded them to my desktop computer, after attaching a new keyboard to it. I restarted the computer and when it came back on, it was dead as a doornail. The mother board failed. Now what I've found out is, that HP Pavilion Slimline computers have a mother board and hard drive that can't be repaired by anyone but the factory. My recommendation is.. don't buy an HP Pavilion. They won't send a new mother board to my computer guy, who said that the way the mother board is designed, it will probably fail down the line again. Or it might run for 8 years. But more than likely it will fail again. Don't buy one...
I will be doing my blog off of my laptop for the next couple of weeks till they get my computer repaired. I'm a little upset... lol
I'll be out of the studio tomorrow.. going back up to Three Forks and the computer guy. Hope to be in the studio on Wednesday.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walking - Emotional End Today

Came in today with some final changes in what the front Indian will carry. Then I started to work on the base.
When you create the base, your, in a sense, setting the stage for the work of art, you've just created.
At the end of the day, I had a emotional moment. It happens sometimes, when everything seems to be falling into place, and suddenly I realize it.

Final photographs. I will be going to the foundry on Monday with this clay to get an idea of what it will cost to produce. This will help in pricing the finished bronze.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walking - Doctor, Buddy, and Foam

Visited the doctor's office and helped a friend today. The time I had left, I finished up, putting clay on the foam on the base.

Back in the studio tomorrow.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walking - Foamin Today

Got all the items together I needed to add foam to the base of this clay. Once I add the foam, I'll no longer be able to work on the horses and figures separately. They're going to be locked in. Till they're molded at the foundry, where the horses will be cut free of the base and each have a mold made of them.

Final Photographs today. I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walking - Bow Scabbard

I worked around the horse and the Indian on it then started the bow scabbard. I unfortunately didn't get a lot of that on video because my camera malfunctioned and even though I hit the record button, it didn't activate. Camera's getting old I'm afraid.

Somewhere A Cowboy's Walking - Fringe

Did final touch ups on the second Crow Indian. Added the traditional rope bridle, added fringe to his shirt as well as rows of beads. I then painted the wax to look like clay, and then I fine tuned his face. Attempting to put a faint smile on his face.
