Still working on fleshing in the figures in this scene in the Mandan Village. I worked on Sacajawea's robe, as well as Clark's hat and robe, and Lewis's hat and robe.

Mandan Village and a Historic Meeting
Today at the Gallery I worked on the relief on the base of the clay of Sacajawea.
I focused on the creation of the scene where in the Manda Village, near present day, Bismark North Dakota, Lewis and Clark met Charboneau and Sacajwea for the first time.

The Sacajawea Kidnap Scene and Mr. Fox
I worked on the Sacajawea Kidnap Scene, on the base, today. I couldn't video the whole day because the camera is in the way in the gallery. So during the slow period I was able to set it up and show at least part of the day's sculpting.
I did a drawing of a warrior, and ended up giving it to a new friend, Mr. Fox, who tried on my worn out cowboy hat.

1st Day at the James Harold Gallery
Started the day watching the sun rise over a very smokey Lake Tahoe. Fires in Yosemite National Park to the south and in Grass Valley California to the west were causing heavy smoke.
I worked in the James Harold Gallery here in Tahoe City California. I'll be showing here through the 8th of September.

Olympic Stars and Blue Jays
Yesterday afternoon was spent at a fund raiser dinner for the North Lake Tahoe Ski Foundation. It was held at the Quist Estate at Sunny Side on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. The dinner was prepared by an Olympic Skier from Argentina. He cooked 4 full lambs (shown above - I took this picture with my cellphone) in front of a hard wood fire, like they do in his home country. The meal was amazing.
There were many young, up and coming Olympic Ski Team hopefuls there and many Gold Medal Winners from the past that call Tahoe their home now. Among them, Franz Klammer. Klammer overwhelmingly dominated the downhill event for four consecutive World Cup seasons (1975-78). He was the gold medalist at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, winning the downhill at Patscherkofel in dramatic fashion. He won 25 World Cup downhills, including four on the Hahnenkamm at Kitzbühel.
Another Gold Medalist that was there, was Tamara McKinney. She raced on the World Cup circuit for 11 seasons, making her first podium at age 16, in December 1978. She won four medals in the World Championships; bronze medals in the combined (1985, 1987) and slalom (1989), and a gold medal in the combined at Vail in 1989.

While winning the overall World Cup in 1983 at age 20, she also won the giant slalom title, which she also had won in 1981. In 1984 McKinney won the slalom title, and took fourth place in the giant slalom at the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo.
I just wish I had photos and videos. I didn't take my camera because I wasn't even aware what this event was going to be. A lady took some photos there and took one of Klammer and myself. I'm still waiting for her to send them. When I get them, I'll add them to my blog.
Meanwhile, I had another Blue Jay evening.

At the Creighton Block Gal, Virginia City Montana
Got to the Creighton Block Gallery at 11 am. The Creighton Gallery is in the first native stone building built in Virginia City. It says in the literature that it was started in 1864. The first Telegraph pole was erected at the corner of the building in 1866.
The rock walls you see in this video are the original stone walls of this amazing building. The walls are at least 2 feet thick.

This car was outside the gallery. I won't be in my studio for the rest of the month. I'll be on the road doing an appearance this coming weekend at the Breckenridge Gallery in Breckenridge Colorado. Then I travel to Tahoe City California. I'll keep the blog updated with travel stuff and video from the galleries I'll be showing in.

Bronc Stompin - August 06 2009
Drawn in many directions today. Finally got to the studio this afternoon and decided to paint the wax clay, with my specially mixed paint, that's the same color as the clay I use. I then worked on the horses left rear leg.

Bronc Stompin - Revisited
Cowboys, in most cases in the 1800s, didn't even own their own horses. They had to rope his ride from a Remuda, and then he'd have to tame the dang horse before he could do his days work.
Remuda; in the Southwest, a herd of extra saddle horses kept, as remounts, on ranches and on cattle drives.
This is a sculpture that I worked on last summer. I'm going to get it ready to be cast into bronze.

I'll be in my studio late tomorrow. I am off to get my van's new tires tomorrow morning.

Day 3 and 4, Park City Arts Festival, and Mountain Trails Gallery
These child artists took part in creating fingers on my larger than life size Iron Horn clay. The young man in the baseball cap, Bryce is his name, made the end of the little finger that he's pointing to, the boy with no hat, Connor, made the fingernail. The little girl, Amelia, is pointing to the finger she made from the knuckle to the fingers end. Just wanted to thank them for their help.
Their Parents are Mr. and Mrs. Hadden.
Nothing more on today. Just the same as yesterday. So saw no reason to repeat it. I'll be back in the studio on Wednesday.
(Yesterday below)
Arrived this morning at 9:30 am and it was already show indications that this was going to be one very busy day. Today's video is pretty dang good, even if I do say so myself. Hope you enjoy it.
Greg Overton and one of his amazing paintings. He was also showing with me in the Mountain Trails Gallery today.
